Just to add more context regarding Jonathan's request. The "v1.1" version style was found to break Debian packaging tool, namely dh-make-perl. This tool tries very hard to make most of the grunt work required to "translate" Makefile.PL or Build.PL informations into a format usable by Debian packager.
