I couldn't reproduce the problem.  After "nmake clean", perl
Makefile.PL, nmake, nmake test,
it ran to completion.

The only difference is that this version of MakeMaker has been
"installed", and it did not tell me it was using the included version
instead of the installed version of that particular module.  So maybe
it's some kind of bootstrap issue?
