The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List:

  modid:       IO::Dir::Dirfd
  DSLIP:       bdhfo
  description: extracts a file descriptor from a dirhandle
  userid:      GRUBER (Anton Berezin)
  chapterid:   21 (File_Handle_Input_Output)
  communities:
    none as of now

  similar:

  rationale:

    Sometimes it is necessary to know the underlying file descriptor of
    a directory handle. Neither Perl nor any of perl modules I am aware
    of provide this functionality. The module fills the niche, and the
    namespace choice was obvious - IO::Dir should be obvious to anyone,
    and Dirfd part comes from the clib dirfd function (or define)
    implemented on some Unix-like platforms.

  enteredby:   GRUBER (Anton Berezin)
  enteredon:   Wed Nov 21 19:00:15 2001 GMT

The resulting entry would be:

IO::Dir::
::Dirfd bdhfo extracts a file descriptor from a dirhandle GRUBER
