It was a brilliant visit - but the museum is not open to the general public - only to pre-arranged groups of recognised motoring organisations. See http://www.mike-hawthorn.org.uk/ for some fascinating pictures and more information.
And we must express many thanks to the two HopMoggers that arranged this special visit for us. I had no idea there was such a trip today, nor for that matter that there was a Mike Hawthorn museum. Make note to self, must try harder. I did manager to watch our sprint 'boys' compete at Goodwood, on a track where heavy rain before the start meant that the first few cars out for practice were slipping around all over the place. -- Steve A11OGE Red 4/4 4 seat On 4 August 2012 15:58, Alan Patterson <[email protected]> wrote: Just returned from a Hopmog organised visit to the Mike Hawthorn museum. I counted 36 Morgans in attendance, but we were out-numbered by Jaguars as the Jaguar enthusiasts club had a special meet arranged by the museum - Hawthorn being a renowned driver of a Jaguar. One for you Steve (A11OGE) - there were more E-Types parked around the museum site than I have ever seen in one place! You would be in your element! Also in attendance were around a dozen TVRs (those that made it without breaking down) parked around the back of the museum. In all I estimate there was in excess of 150 cars squeezed into a relatively small space around the museum grounds. An interesting day out for racing enthusiasts.
