Yes, using GPS to check the speedo is a good idea, something I do to
every car I drive.
Most cars speedos are c 10% fast at 30 mph, looks good to the driver
and gives a margin for avoiding speeding tickets.
For instance my Vauxhall at a true 28 and 57 shows 30 and 60 mph.
A warning though, only check with GPS on a straight and level road, a
lot of bends and hills will not give a true reading, the GPS only
measures time and distance, hills or bends mean the car travels further.
Don't forget different size wheels or tyres will throw the speedo out
even more.
Cheers,
Chas..

Hi Bob,
I had a 1985 CVH 4/4 and still have the original brochure. It was a
great car that I used every day for a 20-mile commute for 2-years.
The brochure quotes 96 bhp and 98 ft/lb torque at 6000 and 4000 rpm
respectively.
With the 5-speed box, final drive ratios are 1st-3.65:1, 2nd-1.97:1,
3rd-1.37:1, 4th-1:1 and 5th-0.83:1.
To check the power, use 3rd or 4th gear but measure the rolling
circumference of the rear wheels first and use a GPS for speed
measurement as Morgan allowed 10% in their early speedo’s.
Best of luck.
Rgds
Mike

Subject: [mogtalk2] Performance and Statistics
Hi
I have owned my 1984 4.4 with a cvh engine for a few years now and used
as a local runaround. Two years ago the TR6 was poorly and so the
Morgan was pressed into service for the Le Mans Classic trip and was a
joy to drive Last autumn we resprayed her and on this years Le Mans
trip she just went over the 20,000 mile mark. I now wish to know how
well she is running, so what I am looking for is information on the
performance I should expect and statistics such as 'final gear ratios'
etc.
I have Original Morgan by John Worrall and Morgan the Last Survivor by
Chris Harvey but neither cover the Series 1600 cvh with 5 speed
box.very well.
Any information would be appreciated.
p.s. Anyone looking for a good TR6?
