Dave, I tend to believe the same as most other respondees. I have been using NGK (BP6ES or BPR6ES whichever is currently available in the States) for my 1970 1600 Crossflow since the mid 1970's (150,000 miles with a Formula Ford rebuild at 105,000). I did try a few sets of the Autolite equivalent Platinums along the way, but the difference seemed negligible to my untrained eye and ears. If I let them go too long and get a larger gap than specified then the new plugs really seem good!
I even still use the original Champion type RN9YC's in the '92 Plus 8 with no complaints after 15 years of ownership. My wife's BMW 128i uses fancy (and dear) plugs but I suspect that is a product of (profit) protection for the dealership network!
