Further to Owen's message; try Kurt Tank's autobiography.  He designed the
splendid Focke-Wolf 190 and many earlier and later aircraft, including jets
for South America.
I often wondered why the F-W 190 had such a small cooling air intake.
However, it had a fan going at twice engine speed.
