Hi Tim, Thanks again. I'll have to give some thought to how that works with so few wires, fascinating. Like you I searched on the component that turned out to be diode. The heat sink block and whatever it contains is unlikely to be a Morgan special I would have thought but I can find nothing like it on a Google image search.

As to the actual electrical how, I'm afraid I don't. The component you can see is a 'Rectifier Diode' reference BYV79E-100 produced by Phillips according to an internet search. The pilot light in the headlamp comes back to a set of bullet connectors, which on the drivers side are behind the expansion tank, you should find one with a light gauge red wire un connected. I think the wing top lights connect in the wheel arch.
