Subject: [mogtalk2] Codes in Advanced Evaps 4.0 Plus 8's

  Owen,

If you want to know what's in your car, contact Mark Reeves at the MMC who
doubtless arranged the Advanced Evaps and weird system in those second
generation 4.0 V8's. None of that stuff came from Land Rover. The MMC used a
Ford Advanced Evaps system because they felt the Land Rover system was too
complicated to fit on a Morgan.

As you know, you have no knock sensors and I'm not even aware of the origin
of those engines as Land Rover ceased production of GEMS 4.0 in late 1999 and
moved on to Bosch Thor for both 4.0 and 4.6. The engines WITH knock sensors
WERE built by Land Rover and came from two batches of 100 engines off the
Solihull engine plant line. These have no Advanced Evaps and a special SAGEM
ECU for 4.0 Plus 8 which is compatible with all Land Rover test equipment. No
idea about your ECU as I've no idea who developed it for the MMC. Mark Reeves
would if anyone there remembers!

"Plan B" would likely be Mark Adams who made chips for this second series of
cars to work WITH knock sensors. I don't know the man but Bob Allen who visits
here may know how to reach him.

Best Wishes to You and Elaine!

  William

    Tim,
I like the idea of what you are saying. I have a fault code
reader/cancelling device. It cost a lot more than £30, but that's by the by. I
bought it from Halford's. 'Nuff said.

Now, to demonstrate to me that what you say is true, tell me what this
fault code means: P.1316; and how I cure the fault. It's one I get often from
my 4.0 litre, Land Rover V-8 powered, 2003 +8.

If you can tell me, you can also tell the MMC - they don't know, nor do any
of the dealers I've taken it to. Nor does the AA.

I just cancel the code and carry on as before. Nothing seems to happen
except that it occurs again, sooner or later.

I gather Rover used to charge about £5 grand for their Testbook set-up. I'm
not prepared to spend that on diagnostic equipment.

    Owen.
