The next "Morgan World" might help you along the Duratec thought line... ;o)

You and me alike - it fired up on Sunday after an 18 months "rest". One
sticky tappet for about 30 seconds and then a very even idle. I've warmed up
the oil, dropped it out and replaced it with fresh stuff. It neither burns nor
leaks any significant quantity of oil (no visible leaks, trickle past the valve
stems on storage).

I've never had to rebuild it, it was 25 years old last week. I do get oil
migrating past the valve seals and so there's always a bit of blue smoke on
starting. This clears after a couple of minutes at the most. This has also been
the case for at least the last 10 years!. Compression is still good and even
across all four cylinders.

I have 70K on the odometer, but it reads 10% high, so an actual 63K.

I change the cam belt every five or six years - I've just bought a new one
but not fitted it yet. One thing that always concerns me is that my engine has
never had a belt tensioner, from new, but it's never been a problem. All new
belts specify a referenced tensioner to be used - I just have to ignore it.

Gaskets and seals on the Weber have required replacement this year - worth
checking if you haven't already done so. In my case the one that leaks first is
the one around the primary throttle pump. These kits are still available on
Ebay - I think "Fast Car" or "Fast Ford" something like that. I've bought two
sets as they will become scarce.

Occasionally my motor can get very warm - for no apparent reason and I just
think that the Thermostat sticks occasionally. I have fitted a header tank, so
I can see at a glance what the water level looks like. I have a bit of chatter
at the distributer, but nothing to worry about.

I can't legislate for catastrophic failure, but as of today I would say mine
should go at least as far as yours.

I've often contemplated what would replace it. I actually have an RS 1600i
complete set up but that is now likely to go into another long term project. As
my body is unusual in that it is the Fiat Plus Four one, then I've looked at
various things over the years that might fit. The favourite was at one time the
"modern" (Mk4?) RS2000 from the mid to late 90's. Then I thought about a Zetec
and now I'm thinking a Duratec would be the obvious choice. Hopefully I'm
nowhere near having to make this type of decision though!

Yet again my old 4/4 has fired up ready for another season of jaunts and
jollity. 107000 miles and 29 years old and still going like a train, not having
lost any of it`s get up and go since I bought it 10 years ago. It now occurs to
me, just how long is the engine life on a CVH 1600. Would be interesting to
know what is the highest mileage that has been achieved in a Morgan
installation without major overhaul.
Any record breakers out there ?
