An easier but potentially less reliable way to monitor MS-SQL would be to create a job
in the SQL Server Agent that exported the result of SELECT @@VERSION or some similar
query to a file in a known location that you can access from the Mon server and then
do a simple time stamp check to see if the file has been updated recently.
