this has always worked fine for me.

you want to try running mail.alert from your shell, just to test it.
for example, what does it do when you invoke the following:

./mail.alert [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

...or whatever your legit email addrs are?
