ChangeLog:
Replace the eevul autoconf macros provided by the gettext developers
with something tailored to our own needs. As a side effect, built
.gmo files are no longer dropped into the source tree in a split
build. Also a few other misc fixes.
* m4/mtn-gettext.m4: New file.
* configure.ac: Use new gettext macros. Refactor the $host case
statement a little. Set CXX_FOR_BUILD if cross-compiling.
* po/POTFILES.in, po/POTFILES.skip, po/remove-potcdate.sin: Delete.
* po/Makevars: Prune settings that are no longer relevant.
* Makefile.am: Write custom rules to build and install message catalogs,
cooperating with the new macros. Disable Automake warnings about use of
GNU make features. Use $(CXX_FOR_BUILD) for txt2c. Define LOCALEDIR
only for the one file that actually needs it.
