The tongue extension I had built isn't removable, but it's not located at the point of the existing trailer tongue. It is located several inches to port and slides out when needed. It does require that I unhook from the trailer and move the tow vehicle to align with the extension. It was the most reasonable solution in my case due to the fact that I have surge brakes on my trailer and a standard telescoping tongue just wouldn't work. Mark Dvorscak M17 #400 GRACE
