Hi Steve, To answer your questions:
The teak board with the main sheet block and cam cleat is in the way for any work in the centerboard drain hole area - and that is where the leak was. So, .....board was removed for easier access to the work area. My leak was at the very aft end of the C/B slot. There was a slight misalignment between the C/B trunk and the deck/cockpit molding, so using an angled mirror I could look at the area but couldn't reach it to do any work. This meant opening up the aft end of the cockpit drain hole - where your C/B pennant emerges - to get at the leak area. With the teak board in place this an impossibility; unless you have triple jointed arms, and can work standing on your head. Nothing was cut or opened from inside the boat. All work was done in the cockpit, in the (enlarged) drain hole. That is why I said, save the cut-out pieces, you want to reinstall them when the job is done. My leak was at the joint between the C/B - hull molding, and the deck/cockpit molding; directly under the cockpit sole.
