Other fabrics could be used, depending on intended use (rain protection vs. sun shade, etc.) They are not like Rich's fully enclosed boom tent, but could be made similar with some lee cloths. However, having made one...using a sail maker would be the easy way! And buying all the fabric, tools and material to do it yourself is not cheap either.
