Steve, The M-15 asym spinnaker tack attaches ahead of the forestay and flies outside the bow pulpit. The halyard block should lie about 8" above the point where the forestay enters the mast. It has to be tacked ahead of the forestay, so you don't want to use it for short runs. I use a single sheet and haven't done this, but with two sheets you can tack it from the cockpit. The sheets need to be long. Let the sail fly out well ahead of the mast, then take up the other sheet.
I find a whisker pole adequate for control. Mine is very light material, and I think of it more as a off-wind genoa, or drifter, and use it only in light winds. My .02 on the boom vang subject: I am very familiar with vangs, having sailed Thistles and Lasers more than anything else, but haven't felt the need for one on Storm Petrel. My main is sheeted mid-boom. I don't like to let the main out too far because of chafe on the shrouds. My full-batten main is pretty full cut, if that has anything to do with it. Surprisingly, to me, it goes to weather quite well in spite of the fullness.
