I told my wife Kathleen about the idea and asked what the pricing would be like. Basically, she can place the orders as a retailer to her connection, which is a wholesaler. The wholesaler would produce the tee-shirts in batches, as is done for local sports events like running races, bike rides, etc. We think we could provide the T's for $15 apeice, shipping and handling included, with a little money left over for beer! Mainly it would be cool to help and to participate in an historic effort.
I think it's important to contact Bob Eeg and Jerry Montgomery as a matter of proprioty, at the least. If any of the artwork used is copyrighted, then of course it becomes a legal obligation to get permission. It's also possible that Bob will want compensation for the shirts, and may want control over the design. I think a member of your group would be the most appropriate to contact him, since I am Montyless :( K's biggest concern was about revisions to the design. You can spend gobs of time coming up with something in an effort to make the powers that be happy. The lines drawings and logos sound like great places to start. If we stay focused on keeping it fun and productive, I believe everyone will win-and win/win is the only way to do anything, in my book.
