The hatch is a two piece, hinged affair. The bottom piece is vertical and about 3" tall on my P-15. The door simply swings down and is held horizontal by a stiff leg to the floor. It's a bit awkward, either used as a door or stored, but all in all a reasonable arrangement for a coastal cruiser.
