Hi George, I have installed hasps on my M15 sail lockers.
Reasons: Part of the season my boat is at a local lake at a marina and I keep the boat locked with three identical padlocks: one for the companionway, and one each for the sail lockers. Therefore I only have to carry one key. I installed the hasps so that they stay firmly in place unless I open them. Therefore no barking shins on hasps that are hanging in the breeze when heeled. I sail mostly by myself. I want instant access to things in the sail lockers: boat hooks; anchor; seat cushions; outboard fuel; etc., which my system allows, while still keeping the sail locker lids firmly shut at all other times. Going below to unlatch my sail lockers is not a good method of operation. The trick here is to make the hasps fit tightly enough that they will stay in place until you exert force to unlatch them. Then you have the best of both worlds: security and instant access.
