First, it's lightweight, making it much, much easier to pull on and off the boat. Second, its rectangular shape allows the ends to be open, which provides plenty of ventilation. I tie it down at the bow, stern, and amidships. I think my tarp is 12'x16'. The silver, heavy duty tarps last about twice as long as the light duty blue ones, here in Tennessee. Works for me!
