Anybody: Would the Dwyer masthead currently used by Nor'Sea for the new Montys fit the old mast?
I had all 4 of my hull #389 chainplates (the backstay pieces are quite different on my model) one-piece cast in a very tough heat-treated bronze by Bristol Bronze, www.bristolbronze.com ... I created the pattern for my custom-cast cabin-side chainplates by widening the profile of the turnbuckle connection: I believe this, combined with the fact the new hardware is once-piece cast rather than two-piece welded, combined with the fact that the plates underwent a hardening heat-treatment, makes them exceptionally strong ... I closed the deal with a wider backing plate, so that I think you'd rip the deck away before tearing my chainplates out ... We'd like to see pics of Rail Rider's restoration at Bill's site - Or I'd like to have them off-list if you care to send them here ... Oh, and people wanted to know how "Rail Rider" got to hawaii. I asked the marina manager (whose sister used to own the boat) and he said that she had "bought it off some marine" that was stationed at Kaneohe bay. That was probably 5 years or more ago. I am guessing that I'm the first person to do anything to it besides get a new sail (done 2 owners ago). I just got new chainplates fabricated by a machinist here, it cost $160 for all 4. I think I will get all new turnbuckles and wires, to go with my new masthead (if you all help me find one) and spreader brackets. So, please help!
