Tom: The MSOG has some photos of my sculling oar, and in the background of a few shots is a picture of the rudder, in the up position.
http://www.msog.org/how-to/oars.cfm Should a a 1/4" line, from the transom, down to and thru a hole in the rudder, and back up to a cleat on the transom. The rudder just slides vertically on the bronze or SS rod. The line is used to raise or lower it. And it is the rudder that slides. The pin stays fixed in one location.
