Tom,

Double shrouds would be overkill, and increase the rigging headaches on a
trailer sailor. A backstay would require having the sails cut to lose the
roach. No M15s have a backstay.

I few years ago, I was rigging Storm Petrel in Sandusky, OH, when I found a
single broken wire, or meathook, at the top of one shroud. Within 45
minutes I was back at the boat with 2 new shrouds at a total cost of about
$50. It's nice to be in a sailing town.

>From the archives, here's Jerry's description of the second hole on the M15
chainplates. I always thought it was for adjustment purposes.

"Belive it! Obviously take a good look at the boat and hardware, but there
is actually a good safety factor the way we did it; we used 1/8"
1/19 wire with a fork terminal to each chainplate (that's what the extra
hole is for), and a line to one of the aft chainplates. Adjust the aft line
so that the boat is trimmed down by the bow so that the mast clears the
hoist. We lifted the 17 the same way but had a wire br9idle going to each
backstay chainplate, but watch out for the backstay hanging up on the hoist.

We lifted both boats this way to keel them and put them on the trailer.

Jerry"

Hi, Folks.

Does anyone know where to buy replacement shrouds and forestay for M-15? I
have no sailboat repair facilities here in Planet Utah. Also, my
chainplates have two holes for the shrouds. Would double shrouds be
overkill or a good safety precaution? What about a backstay? There is none
on my M-15. Do the newer ones have backstays?

Thanks.
