>The carb is very simple on these rascals. The jet is clean and all seems fine. The leaking oil is almost certainly the problem. It seems I have not paid as much attention to the transport and/or storage of this motor as I should have. I have tried to keep the motor on its arm side....but my son has also put the motor away a couple of times and may have had it on the other side for quite a while before I noticed the warning sticker on the motor. Either way, I have obviously done this wrong and gotten the oil leakage problem. First four stroke I have owned. Having oil in the combustion chamber is not a good thing. You should have seen the amount of oil in the water when we fired it up in a barrel. Yikes.

Now I am wondering what it is going to take to correct the problem. Onward and upward.

Thanks for all the help folks. Much appreciated.

Based on the way my Honda 2HP behaves, I'd still guess at a gooped-up
carb. I needed to have mine professionally cleaned (still don't know
what I was doing wrong). The oil lives in the crankcase and can leak out
-- my Honda can only be stored in certain configurations, and if you
leave it on the wrong side or end then the oil falls out.
