M_Boats: where to put outboard while towing?

It never occurred to me NOT to leave the motor on the transom until I 
read here that most people don't.  I've towed at least seven thousand 
miles with it there with no problems (no one rear-ended me.)  I have 
the permanent transom that does not raise and lower and a 2 HP Suzuki 
2-stroke.
