Captain Sadler, I can understand your reluctance to drill holes in your newly refinished teak toerail. I am reluctant to weld track to my aluminum toerail. Park your boat out in the sun all summer and the toerail will cover the UV damage. (lg dose o' sarcasm). You could possibly get by with 12" -18" of track at minimum for your genoa sheet lead IF...you had your mast rake determined and fixed based on the boats setup, AND your shrouds and stays did not stretch, AND if your sail was not subject to stretch, AND if you sailed in the same wind speed/wave conditions all the time. Not really a realistic plan, as the variables are numerous and if not setup to accommodate these variables the sail is not close to reaching its potential. Lets try this one - try and find a track with fastener spacing that matches the boats rail, use that track to cover and preserve that teak from the elements AND allow you to realize the full benefit of your new genoa! A 24" track, low profile - would do just fine. Ask other M-15 owners for the location of their track and use that as a basis for locating the hardware. Having the proper hardware in the proper location - no more - no less- makes for an easy, safe, elegant sailing experience. Think long and hard, try all layouts BEFORE drilling, and think again, If you do not have experience with the 'application' ask some people who have the 'fittings' and what they would change or how it works, or what to look out for in the way of interference.
