Several weeks back I pulled our powerboat off it's rented lift and onto
its trailer as a hurricane (which fizzled and did nothing here in MD)
approached. The following weekend my wife and I launched Chimpanzee and
sailed down Breton Bay to the marina where the powerboat is kept. As the
powerboat was still on the trailer, we decided to put the Chimp on the
lift to see how it worked out. Now the powerboat is 21' and about 4800
lb, but the M-15 nestled in nicely (once we got the lift deep enough for
the keel to clear) and, when we lifted her, sat there pretty well. But,
a problem I discovered the next day when I went back to check things
was, because of the rounded hull and the rocker to aft, if I stepped too
far back in the cockpit the boat would rock on the lift bunks and the
bow would pitch up. I sure it wasn't as bad as it felt, but it was
disconcerting. As it was a temporary thing, I've not given any thought
to how to resolve it, but, again, this lift was never set up for the
Monty's dimensions anyway.
