Indeed
this one sheet brought a spectacular price when Deke sold it - the women who
bought it was in a have-to-have-it mentality - in other words, at any price -
why? Turns out a person she knew was either in the film, was the director,
producer, something along those lines - I can't remember exactly but this
came from Deke. I did notice that the second highest bidder
acquired the same poster about a week or two later for $550 - bet
he/she was glad at that price.
You
just never know at auctions why something exceeds the limits - chalk most of it
up to spontaneity
Posterprice list that sale of Deke's as October '02 for
US$2125.00 which stands out amid a range from a couple of hundred to $700 as
next highest listed over the last few years.
Todd is right though, I've seen more FORBIDDEN PLANET
one sheets offered than SHRINKING MAN over the past few years. Or maybe it's
just the same group of FPs being floated around the marketplace.
As for "value" then surely as the prices of the iconic
titles go beyond the average pocket then the second division titles (I'm
talking about the posters, not the quality of the movie) will rise
accordingly.
Haven't we all seen how certain titles can get inflated
almost overnight?
While that sale of SHRINKING MAN of Deke's was the result of
two bidders going head to head for something they both wanted, I don't think
it brought a lot of SHRINKING MAN one sheets out of the woodwork from sellers
hoping to cash in on a new record price.

sheet went very high in one of Deke Richard's Halloween auctions a couple
of years back, well over a grand. Anyone remember what it went
for?
Great movie, great poster. How interpreting
that the quality of the movie is so often not reflected in the price
levels.
