Doc,
You're right in many ways -- and I'll think you'll see that
Jackson realized he could not -- and should not -- try to "duplicate" the
original, but rather that he should give it his own interpretation (while still
holding true to the plot and character basics, as if the original were a
book that he was making a movie out of). How successful he was in this is
something everyone will have to decide for themselves. But listen, go into it
with an open mind about Namoi Watts. Give the kid a break... I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised.
I'll look forward to hearing what you thought of
it.

Subject: [MOPO] KONG Being a sci-fi & horror fan, I am going to see King Kong on Monday. BUT
i know from the previews, it will not come close to the original. I admire
Jackson's enthusiasm & life long obsession with the movie, but the original
will never be duplicated and WATTS her name is no Fay Wray. Watch for the
upcoming computer generated remake of the WIZARD OF OZ, starring Robert
Deniro, Christopher Walken, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Queen Latifa and Jessica
Simpson as Dorothy
