Hey Channing,
You never return my calls :)
In answer to your question, I want to mention Jena Malone, who isn't big yet,
but starred in 2004's teen religion comedy Saved! and might be familiar to
you as the barge pilot in Cold Mountain and as one of the March sisters in last
year's Pride and Prejudice . I rist became aware of her as the near starving
daughter of an unemployed Beau Bridges in Hidden in America. She broke your
heart. She also played Bone in Bastard Out of Carolina and the daughter in
Stepmom and the co-conspirator in Donnie Darko. She has appeared with such
heavyweights as Jodie Foster, Susan Sarandon and Ed Harris and more than held
her
own. She is an unusually intuitive and sensitive actor for her age.

I've been enjoying the remake thread going around now and had a thought
about something similar last night. I was watching JERRY MAGUIRE on
cable and remembered how great and refreshing it was to see a new
actress on the screen when it first came out. Renee Zellwegger was
smart, pretty, sweet, and and a brand new face on the Hollywood scene.
She held her own with Tom Cruise and really made the movie work in ways
that another more familiar actress wouldn't have been able to achieve.
This is one of the few times when a new personality came along recently
that really "lit up the screen." For those of you who yawn at the
thought of another vehicle with Ben Affleck or Tom Cruise or Charlize
Theron or Julia Roberts or Cameron Diaz -- can you think of other times
when a new face has come along and really improved a film or the movie
industry in general -- out of the blue?
