There were some fantastic quality dupe stills (and not official studio
restrikes) produced throughout the 70s.These were available through most of the
major American dealers and movie memorabilia stores who sold them as that -
dupe stills.
And then there were the back room boys who did great copy stills, including
using some simple tricks for false ageing, and sold them as "originals".
That's a lot (as in many thousands) of non-original studio/distributor still
out there in collecting land. I'm kind of curious to know what expertise those
that slab stills have in defining exactly what they are looking at.... and
grading.

With all the stills you are selling this week Bruce, one would think you
would care what the difference is between original and vintage
(though maybe not CGC's definition).
I believe the answer to the question though is that Original relates to a
still that dates from the time of the film's original release, while vintage
means that perhaps they believe the still was struck later from the original
negatives (like a 50s/60s still created for the original 1931 Frankenstein),
and of course contemporary would refer to an even more modern striking of the
image.

More importantly, does anyone care?

CGC are grading stills on two levels. The first is that the still is
either Vintage, Original or Comtemporary. The second level is on condition with
four categories. I just checked the website and they don't define Vintage,
Original or Contemporary. Does anyone know what the difference is between
Vintage and Original?
