What's that tobacco poster at Mr. Gower's drug store in IT'S A
WONDERFUL LIFE? "Ask Dad. He knows."?
Well, it was too late to call CGC yesterday, so I had my dad come and
assess the situation. He pointed out that with three sides cut free,
I essentially had a legal pad scenario -- at least two (and possibly
three) layers connected on one side. So rather than cut down through
the top layer (the plastic) to expose the second (the lobby card), I
could tear it the top layer up and away. Actually separating the
seal between the two layers of plastic would definitely release the
card without the risk of cutting anything, and without putting
pressure on the card that might lead to tears.
Long story short, it worked. Tearing the two layers of plastic apart
at the seal freed the card. I honestly don't know if the card was
really stuck in the seal or if it was just so close that it was
"pinned", but it took separating the plastic layers at the seal to
get the card out. Other than the tear in the bottom border I already
knew was there, I can't see any damage to the card (though the
plastic is a shambles).
Thanks to a Q-tip, the bug on Jean Arthur's chin is now gone and I'm
off to the framer with my newly liberated lobby card.
Thanks to all for the advice.

P.S. I have no idea who Henny Youngman is, but I do remember an
episode of Sesame Street about 'Waiter, there's a fly in my soup'
with Grover as the waiter. Just found it on YouTube:

about prepositions?

So my MR. SMITH portrait card arrived, and upon closer inspection,
it definitely had to come out of the CGC encapsulation because that

or ink is actually a smashed bug!

I got out my box knife and carefully cut the plastic along one,
then two, then three sides, but I can't get the card out of the
plastic! It seems to be stuck on the end that was closest to the
seal (the right side). There's no room to cut on that side without
risking cutting through the plastic to the paper, and I'm afraid to
pull on it too hard, since it already has a tear in the lower
border. Is it possible that the edge of my card is sealed *to* the
plastic instead of *in* it?
Advice anyone? This has got me stressed and perturbed.
