Well, of course, it would be impossible to stump this esteemed panel.
Richard, Michael, and undoubtedly others, have answered correctly, that the
scene being shot was from Samson and Delilah.(I agree with Bruce, it's a
great movie and I loved Mature in it, regardless of Franc's unkind remark).

Actually, Samson and Delilah was shown on TCM a few nights ago, and if you
caught it then, it would be impossible not to spot and recognize Delilah's
tent and the unusual Philistines helmets. The military head honcho, Ahtur,
played by Henry Wilcoxon, had a unique helmet that fascinated me from the
very first time that I saw the movie, way back in the early 50's. And sure
enough, here he is again in Sunset Boulevard. He's the very last one to
listed in the acting credits in IMDb.

oh c'mon.. does no one want to say it..
Samson and Delilah was the film, and seeing as it was released almost a year
before Sunset Blvd, you have to wonder when SB was shot

Philip, I think you're mistaken about the Dance of the Seven Veils belonging
in this story. This is a different Biblical temptress altogether.

In the most technical sense, Cecil B. DeMille was not working on a movie (as
a Director) at the time he appeared in Sunset Boulevard. He was of course,
involved in Pre-Production for other films and his next film as a Director
wouldn't be until a few years later. During the time of the shoot he was in
development for the film he would do with Burt Lancaster, The Greatest Show
on Earth.

The film set that was created for DeMille to be on for Sunset Boulevard was
for a film that had wrapped almost a year earlier. The film was a big hit
for DeMille and they were able to easily find the costumes and set pieces to
re-create a small portion of the earlier DeMille film for the establishing
shots that were needed for Sunset Boulevard. Rather than give the title
away, I will just say that the Dance of the Seven Veils played a big part in
the DeMille film.

Before the Fred Astaire Stage closed at Paramount about 3 years ago I used
to work on that stage all the time as that is where music scoring was done.
The two adjacent stages are where much of the Stark Trek films and series
were housed for a very long time.Older people around the lot referred to
them as the DeMille stages and one of them even had his name on it until
modern times had it replaced by Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek plaques.

The other day I watched, once again, Sunset Boulevard on TCM.

There's a scene in the movie where Norma Desmond(Swanson) is paying a visit
to Cecil B. DeMille, who's playing Himself. Gloria Swanson is paying a
visit to an actual set, of an actual movie that was being filmed at the
time.

My question is: what is the movie that was being filmed?

(looking up IMDb would give you more than a clue, so, no cheating)
