I think The Killing is a really underrated movie. Having spent considerable time in Vegas surrounded by really low life people, I think the movie superbly captures a wide array of really desperate people. I love the basic plot (and its many twists) and the acting.
Still, The Asphalt Jungle is an even better movie! It is really a masterpiece on so many levels, and I think The Killing's reputation has suffered because it can't escape The Asphalt Jungle's shadow. Don't get me started on Paths of Glory! It is a perfect movie on every level. I only wish I could know exactly what master pulp author Jim Thompson contributed to the script. I must have watched it 50 times, and it never gets old.
