I thought 2001 was one of the more uneven movies I have ever seen, with some
great sequences and some ultra-tedious ones.

I felt similarly about Full Metal Jacket and Barry Lyndon.

But I was completely left in the dark by Eyes Wide Shut.

Give me the Kubrick that made * The
Killing<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049406/>
*, * Paths of Glory <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825/>*, *
Lolita<http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056193/>
*, and * Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the
Bomb <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057012/>*

I consider them all absolute masterpieces.

Sometimes achieving great success allows a director too much control over
their movies, and that can be a bad thing.
