I think these seem like a fantastic idea for people who have the money to invest in such storage and also who are not intending on getting the poster back out again to review or enjoy in full format (as would be the case for a one sheet). Obviously they are suited to those who I would assume are Collectors for Investment, as once officially graded they can rest assured that their particular poster is sealed off and guaranteed to return them their investment plus interest moving forward. I guess with Collectors such as ourselves we have to reach a good balance between storing for preservation & also storing for relatively easy access (should a buyer wish to request additional photographs and/or should we decide to have it restored/linenbacked). There's also that point of having a piece of living history in your home and being able to review it close up when you wish, i.e. smelling it and feeling it..whatever floats your boat as they say ;-). This can only really be done if you have easy access to the posters.

Obviously every collector is different and we always ensure that our posters are stored in a way that works for us/the business. We use acid free backing boards, Mylar sleeves and lidded sealed storage boxes for flat/folded items. These are then kept in a temperature controlled area. It is a costly process all in, but it allows us the right balance of preservation and access should it be required.

Just seems a bit too clinical, though ideal if you're in it primarily for investment.
Besides, I sometimes like to sniff old paper.

There perfect for 1-sheets. Just store them encapsulated all folded up! Then add a little tiny photo on the top so you can see what you enjoy if you busted open the package.

These plastic cages are fine for lobbies and tiny posters, but utterly impractical for one sheets. Are they not?

This seems good from a grading standpoint but personally, as a purest collector, I don’t like my collectibles in plastic “cages”. I like to touch, feel and “smell” my paper gems. I’ve never understood putting photographs in the plastic holders and would hate to have posters or similar items in them as well. What’s next – cut autograph pages in plastic cages? Don’t get me wrong – we have to consider individual differences but I think that most collectors are like me. In any event, it’s a great thing that CGC will start to grade window cards.
Thanks for the notification Bruce!

CGC Adds Mini Window Cards to Services

Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) has added mini window cards to its movie lobby card grading services. CGC employs a 10-point grading scale for lobby cards and mini window cards based on the industry standard scale used for comics and magazines pioneered by CGC in 1999, the company said.

“The same accurate, consistent and impartial grading that has made CGC the preeminent comic and magazine grading company lends itself to movie lobby cards and mini window cards,” the company said in a written statement.

“Known throughout the hobby as the world’s most experienced and accurate third-party grading service, CGC has established itself over the last 13 years as the premier place to have your comics, magazines, photos and lobby cards certified. CGC’s lobby card encasement is a sealed and tamper-evident holder of a heavy gauge archival plastic with binder holes. The fully transparent front and back allows complete viewing of the card and protects from any improper handling or soiling. If an owner wants to remove the card from the holder they can merely cut the holder open and remove the card, although that would nullify the grading,” they said.
