Yes....brown and bass! Such as this one... http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7083&lotNo=83181 Now offered in our March auction.
Here's another with Brown art, we've never seen this rarity before. Obviously from first release as is Universal International! Anyone have further information on this poster? http://movieposters.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7083&lotNo=83182 On Nov 4, 2013, at 7:44 PM, "Richard Halegua Comic Art" <sa...@comic-art.com<mailto:sa...@comic-art.com>> wrote: I'm sorry Grey, NO, Heritage did not sell this poster with a description of Reynold Brown art this auction did http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=3164378 and clearly it doesn't make a differentiation between the Brown art & the Kallis art, if he knows but it's something helps the hobby when there is more clarity on the issue. As noted in my original post, many posters for various titles are incorrectly identified in this way. Not just this one poster. It's a common mistake that people think Brown did all the CFTBL posters, when to any person understanding his art it becomes obvious he did elements on some and not others. Saul Bass of course is a completely different issue, not because there is a list in a book, but because many imitators are incorrectly identified and I have done so myself on titles such as Nine Hours to Rama and West Side Story as a side note, it is interesting trivia to know that in one case, both Reynold Brown and Saul Bass art can be seen on one poster, which is unique - the Spartacus roadshow poster with the Saul Bass portraits on Roman Dinars and the Saul Bass illustration near the bottom Rich At 05:29 PM 11/4/2013, Smith, Grey - 1367 wrote: I'm confused, Rich. Did we misdescribe as you post a link to Heritage? The description didn't say anything about who executed the design and work. Frankly, wasn't even aware Brown did artwork on that campaign! The only thing is, while Brown did do some art that appears on this poster, which is the inset image at top, the main body of the art is by Albert Kallis. So while saying there is Reynold Brown art on the poster, by not differentiating the reality of two artists, it puts forth an idea that Brown did the whole poster, and this is just not so. Generally speaking, for most of the 1950s horror-sf posters where there are multiple designs utilizing different art, the art is by more than one artist. A grea example of this is Creature From the Black Lagoon. Brown's art is used on the 3sheet and the half sheet, it is not his work on the 1sh (I believe that may be Kallis also) I understand another fact, that most dealers are not art experts and that because I have spent 30 years selling comic art & illustration as well as studying art for decades, I have a leg up.. But it helps the hobby when the information is complete.
