Scott-I highly recommend attending Cinevent. It's one of the last really
good shows. A throw-back from the good old days: crappy hotel in the middle
of nowhere with a great attendance of serious dealers and good material.
Zeev is on point. It's a much social as acquiring material. It's good to put
a face with people that you have dealt with over the phone or internet(which
has killed shows). For the collector, there is nothing like walking into a
room full of paper. The sterility of the internet doesn't compare in any
way. Plus there are screenings and an auction. It would be great to see a
resurgence of shows but that is unlikely so go while you can!

Hello Scott,

If all you're interested in is finding "good in-demand titles for good
prices" like you're used to, by searching eBay, it is a pity, because that
is not why people go to conventions.
Don't get me wrong, hundreds of people find thousands of items every single
day in those conventions, and there no reason for you to be the exception.
However, there are many other reasons that make the Poster Convention such a
popular event for the participants.
How about chatting and exchanging ideas with fellow collectors? Meeting new
and interesting people which may become friends for life? Going for lunch or
dinner with a few fun guys you just met? Making new contacts and new sources
for future sales or purchases? Meeting a knowledgeable dealer, or seeing
some items you never knew existed?
Depending on the specific venue, Poster Conventions have various other
features: Screening vintage movies, sometimes silent ones with live piano
accompaniment, Auctions, special guests signing autographs or new books, and
more.
Treat yourself, stay in a hotel and spend a whole weekend on your most
favorite hobby and pastime. Can you have a better vacation that that? You
got to try it once!

I've never been to a movie poster convention and would like to attend one. I
live in California but would still need to drive 5 hours to LA and spend
money on a hotel, etc.
My question is:
Is it worth the money to attend a convention?
Will I find good in-demand titles for good prices or am I just wishful
thinking?
Am I just better off searching eBay and auction sites?

Thanks for the info.
