Ok I have a question and also a opinion...:)

years ago...In a galaxy far far away... nooo.. in 1976 in Toledo I had decorated my office in Movie posters a reel Old movie lights and stills and director chairs in my waiting room when I was a booking agent.. one day a friend brought in 20s photoplay movie magazines and I was hooked I starred to sell memorabilia in film collector papers mail order... and bought stuff from many collectors that had saved stuff... My 1st posters where classic reproductionss fro, POrtal of Corte madera Calf., what was cool is they where printed well and nixe array of Images of many classic Films that to get a authentic original would have been costly... they looked great framed and gave the ambiance and made the statement of love of Film I wished to have,,,

when I started to get into the authentic materials I found that just to have it was interesting not for condition as I actually liked the aging as it added "relic" Character esp on a older poster.. It almost looked more authentic when there was some age etc... with exception of the deterioration and breakdown and acid in the paper and mold I like the look much as Guitatrists like a road distressed used Guitar and they actually make them now to look beaten which defies logic to me...

anyways my question One is why is there such hatred for reprints as to me they allow everyone to enjoy poster art that is financially on a budget... and whats odd is when people finally see a poster that is a reprint and is almost indistinguishable they freak as it may be a counterfeit " I agree when people try to pass of copy's as original that's wrong however if the item is honestly represented as a reprint Ive always felt its perfectly acceptable and helps the hobby as a whole and also educates many people to the art of the cinema.

I have sold 10s of 1000 to family's that want a movie room or basement man cave or for their living rooms as the Movies beside being art also may reflect a moment in Time like when a couple 1st dated. 1st movie they went to,, etc....or simply because they loved the film... for me that was the case and still is..It the recent group I obtained some where reprints and this guy collected since the 60s and although many are Originals he also had reprints... why?? because he genuinely Loved movies...His books, magazines showed me a lifetime of collecting and the types of stuff he enjoyed.. 100% genuine passion... he didnt own the most expensive poster,,,or for that matter the rareist titles... But what impressed me most is the sincerity of his interest and depth of his passion as the periodicals and catalogs are time capsules of so many major people in the Biz that chronicaled the hobby of film collection, the authors the small kitchen press company's the historians ,, Its all here in one lot

aside from finding the holy grail just because of value...Ive been more intrigues by the overall experience of seeing his entire life long collection.. Its really been cool and I think what Ive got from my years around this stuff is the lives of the players and people that have told the stories and crafted the films.the overall cohesive project- writers directors camermen, costume, set design,, then the theaters and the exhibition and the technical display and the ad depts.. its all so fascinating...

so why would anyone not wish to allow as many people as possible to experience and share the grand design of Movies in any way??? I dont get it other then for the money aspect or to create a elitist club which I personally deplore ..

To introduce film poster art to novice collectors in the form of a reprint has probably been one of the most rewarding parts of selling movie memorabilia for me..

or showing them the history and re creating aspects of the biz..
my product like hand crank movie cameras help explain the heritage to young people and inspire them to get in the biz so they can make films many people give to kids that are taking film courses as Gifts... an that give me a warm fuzzy feeling that maybe we are inspiring a new Spielberg or the like...

so in conclusion I just think tat Reprints serve a great purpose to spark interest in the hobby and should not beso hated as many dealers say they only sell originals.. that's fine but for people that dont want or have the cost of a rare original a reprint to me is just fine,,

I have a Mummy and a Phantom of the Opera in the look that llok really cool,, and the lobby cards that I have are so cool and has allowed me to see cards I would have probably never seen in full size otherwise.. so Its been a real treat to view them and only unnder a loupe can I see the fact that the tiny type is fuzzy,, otherwise most would think they are real old vintage cards, Point being that I may never had the opportunity to Like poster art and sell memorabilia for like 38 years had it not been for portal reprints back in 1976...
