I guess I would be best described as a MOPO lurker. I do not personally collect or sell movie memorabilia but several years ago I had occasion to sell several lots of lobby cards, press books and stills for a friend who had worked as an usher in the 60's and needed to part with the moderate collection he had acquired. I joined this group to help with those sales and subsequently stayed on the list due to the various discussions, observations, rants and other communications that often prove to be very ah, interesting.

I had two (that I recall) encounters with celebrities. We had moved to Los Angeles in 1959 and in 1960 my parents and I attended a church on West Hollywood Blvd. After Sunday services I remember my folks talking to an interesting gentleman who turned out to be Jonathan Winters. I was about 13 or 14 and found his stories and sound effects to be quite interesting for a grown up. I probably saw him on and off for about a year and recall that he and his wife were both very nice people.

My second encounter, and more interesting to me at that time, occurred around 1962. A buddy from high school and I went to a Saturday evening screening of a Three Stooges movie in Glendale, CA. The movie was, I believe, "The Three Stooges Meet Hercules". As luck would have it the Stooges appeared live on stage just before the movie started. Moe, Larry and the last Curly (De Rita?). After about a 10 minutes of dialog with some slapstick they departed, leaving the theater by way of the main isles. Since I was at an end seat I had the opportunity to shake Larry's hand as he went by.

There you have it. Perhaps not as exciting as some of the other responses to this query but my contribution non the less.

Just wondering who among the Mopo membership has had any sort of relationship with movie stars. In the Summer of 1970 I spent a few days drinking with Roddy McDowall in a pub in Kew, London (he drank pints of Bloody Marys). Liam Neeson lived round the corner from me for many years and my wife and his sister were very close friends - she cuddled him as a baby. Who did (do) you know?
