I think the only diference wa the cinerama used three projectostr on a
ibbon screen so they convergedona screen made ofstrips..paulallen has
one inseattle that was built frm proectors fund inperu by Jaohn harvy
ofOHIO..andthe had one in Dayton OHIO the new neon theter,,i never got
to se it..
but i did see the various formats like cimema scope and panovisionhad
a anamorphic lens and i have one for my scope 16mmprints what they did
was squeeeze the imgae smaller formati so whenyou project it the lens
unsquesse the image...and widens it..hat why is wider and skinny from
top to bottom..the imax is orwas done witha larger film neg andthe
film was much larger..unless now its digital...iam notsure...all i know
is the last film a i saw -starwars..the sund is too inyourface with
loots ofsubsonic and mostly explosions..theimage stilldoed notmatch

inthe cinemascp and vistavison days they used a curved screen whic awas
beautifuland the curtais nwould be kind close andthen would open up to
unveil a great image..itwas called showmanship..when[projectionist whe
union artistand crafts man..and the sound was analog ,,warm and tweaked
just right and thefilms had great storys..and images by great
cinematographers that made son wonderful shots..andthe spaecaileffects
whera combo of practical and in thecamera..andlarge props and
sets..notcgi digital....
the various formats where a wonderful epic way to show films..and it
seems all but gone..the carbon arc light was so strong and the screen
materials reflected the images verywell.....the voice of the theater
speakers, jbland electro voice and tube analog maps still are the best
..however the big power amps of the80s like crown dc -300 and others do
subs well as they are transitor solid state....
the imax i belive uses a flat screen maybe a slight curve.. however
seeing a epic western ora huge film lketora tora tora on bigscreen was
very visual...even thedrive ins had serious lamphouse to project images
farand strong......
thier was also a format made by Douglas Trumble fr brainstorm
withNatilie wood where they sped up the film as it was said to make
better impressions onth mind..i frgt thename but whenfilm went to
digital it seemed to goawat and remeber7mm also wa double the 35mm fim
and they took many out ofretiement toRun tarentinos films hateful 8 as
they where mostly dumped..so film is getteing harder as most prins are
hard toship and scartchandrun as the new kids intheater just d a digital
like download or dvd tpe thing ona 4 k projector....which to me wa a
disapointment....so all thats left is blow arc bulbs wheic i met
theinventor fromstrng here inToledo arthur Hatch thatreplaced Carbo
arc....
btw thecarbon arc was refined by Harrystrong here inToedo as he made the
feed system so the arce rods would be fed equal into the lamphouse
inlke1923..and thastwhy strong was 65% of the world market...aln with
ethiertrademark super trooper follow spots they made all the us navy
search lights forshis..andi think the huge search lights forourdoor
use...thatwhere originally for millitary tospot planes in ww2////
