I think that work by Marie Clay would be a good place to look for research on 
the reading-writing connection.  "Change Over Time" looks as if there may be 
some info. in the first 2 chapters.  In "Becoming Literate " Chap. 2 has a 
section called "How Writing Contributes to Early Reading Success".  There may 
also be useful information at the Reading Recovery website.  I hope this is 
helpful.
