Dr. Jan Richardson's book will be out Spring 2009. The title is The Next Step in Guided Reading: Teaching with Power and Purpose. She has permission to sell the draft copy of the book. The cost is $30.00. You can email Jan if you are interested at [EMAIL PROTECTED] She is a reading specialist from Virginia. She has been working with many schools around the country over the years. The book includes planning sheets to help keep your reading lesson focused. The book is very teacher friendly and clearly written. The strategies in the book work for K-5. The comprehension strategies could be used beyond that for instruction. Students we have who are reading above 5th grade are continuing to make progress at the higher levels.
She has worked with my school for the past four years. Since we began using her plan for guided reading our test scores are improving every year. We moved from about 86% proficient or advances in 2005 to 95% proficient or advanced in 2007. This years scores are embargoed by the state until the fall so I can't publish them. I can say that they have once again improved significantly. The plan works for all kids.
