When working with reluctant or struggling readers, you need to see yourself differently. You cannot simply the facilitator of a one-size fits most curriculum. You need to become a Book Pimp!! You have to sell reading like you've never sold reading. Know three things and know them well:
1. Your students 2. Reading Theory and Practice (Look hard to the work of people like the Goodmans, Burke, Clay) 3. Literature--you have to know books, breath books, infuse books--PIMP books The right book will hook the reader, you knowledge of the reader will bait the hook and a deep understanding of reading theory and practice will reel them in.
