When working with reluctant or struggling readers, you need to see yourself
differently. You cannot simply the facilitator of a one-size fits most
curriculum. You need to become a Book Pimp!! You have to sell reading like
you've never sold reading. Know three things and know them well:

1. Your students
2. Reading Theory and Practice (Look hard to the work of people like the
Goodmans, Burke, Clay)
3. Literature--you have to know books, breath books, infuse books--PIMP books

The right book will hook the reader, you knowledge of the reader will bait the
hook and a deep understanding of reading theory and practice will reel them in.

Subject: [MOSAIC] Reading Comprehension

> Hello,
>
> I am a student teacher in a classroom where many students are achieving below
> their current grade level. Students are rarely engaged in reading
> assignments and seldom read as a leisure activity. As a result, many
> students are unable to pass assessments related to reading assignments. What
> comprehension strategies work best with students who are achieving below
> grade level? What kinds of activities keep students engaged in reading?
