Elmira! I just left Western New York..Leroy:) Back to HOTTTT!! Florida:( You have a great problem:) Usually teachers need to know high interest low readability..you need high interest...high readability....the last time someone asked about this I was stumped...but I did some research and some gifted teachers say that the best thing to use are classics in their original version!!! Try it:) Find any classic piece of literature that would be at the second grade interest level however ususally the original version has much more challenging text readability.

Subject: [MOSAIC] reading help for second grade

Hello Everyone and Happy Summer!

I have been a special education teacher for 22 years. In September, I
will be a first time second grade teacher. I am very excited about this new endeavor. It has re-energized me and I feel like a brand-new teacher. I have been doing comprehension strategies for several years now, as a push-in support teacher and have collaborated with the general education teachers
on many occasions.

My question is this: I know that I am going to have some top-notch
readers coming into second grade who can also comprehend (fifth-sixth grade).
I
am wondering if anyone has suggestions as to the best way to find reading material that is at the appropriate reading level of the student but is also at their maturity level. I would appreciate authors, titles, series, etc.

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,
Denise Glowaski
