Arkansas uses research from Jim Knight from the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning and from the National Staff Development Council, especially Taking the Lead by Joellen Killion and Cindy Harrison. Knight's book Instructional Coaching provides research to support why coaching is necessary and the partnership principles which should be a foundational belief. Taking the Lead provides roles and responsibilities for school-based coaches.
