>There's a Time and a Place

Whether presenting or just talking to other educators about teaching, I
many times make the reference to driving a car. We can talk about it, show
videos and have discussions on it. HOWEVER until you actually drive a car,
a person cannot get better at it. Of course, that can be with so many
things in our lives. I conscientiously work to present mini-lessons and
short pieces for students to practice. Each strategy that is introduced,
students are expected to apply through their own choice books. The uses of
the strategies are confirmed through individual conferences I do with the
students. Now this year I am working on a common assessment with another
colleague and hope to gain insight through the results.

OOoohhh my room! Crazy we just renovated the north end our building but
only gained new carpets and cabinets. If fact the rooms are smaller than
before. I did order round tables hoping to gain some space. I also lack a
nice wall area to create a quality reading spot. I am really looking
forward to the ideas from this list. Also, will accept any photos (email
them just to me). :)

Guilty. . .I know what takes up my time!!! I read “Book Whisperer” last
year and implemented the book requirement ideas with my 8th grade English
students. Well, as the year went on the students would bombard me at the
beginning of class with their thoughts and the excitement about books they
have finished.
How ghastly is that??? Heehee I do know it should look different for my
7th reading class this year . . . but!?

Looking forward to your ideas!
Rhonda
