Remembering THIS too got me on the wrong track with the
   normal0 ^N charset1 ^O normal0
switching of vt100-compatibles. The chance to hit an
exact xterm escape-sequence is small, but to cat byte
14 is huge, which is causing this 'almost every time',
but only IF you are on a terminal which interprets those
sequences. (Hits me, because I use(d) screen everywhere
to save running programs in case the ssh-connection
breaks during the nightly DSL disconnects. 'mosh' is
avoiding these now, but screen still allows me to
connect 'mosh'es from different places to one 'screen'.)
