That's what I see:

./motion -c ../motion-rtsp.conf -n -s -d 7

Hi,
first of all thanks for the great app.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, thanks for
understanding :)

you know there are lots of webcams support jpeg encoded frames. And I have
alread read some questions wheather motion supports pass-thru for ip/web
cams supporing mjpeg (mjpeg-proxy)

I wonder if motion can output webcam encoded jpegs gathered from webcam
 also doing motion-detection as well in order to save time on jpeg
encoding and cpu usage.

In other words, I guess pipeline is
row frame --> motion-detection + jpeg encoding --> out

my question is
jpeg frame --> decoding+motion-detection + passthru(jpeg) --> out

thanks
MaLi

No, motion can't pass raw jpeg frames somewhere. But you can use v4l
loopback device to feed frames to mjpeg-streamer

i think situation is not improved unless motion greps jpeg frames from
camera, otherwise motion is to encode and push jpeg to loopback dev which
eats cpu power as well

I wonder if it is possible to grep jpeg from cam then make motion detection
directly on jpeg quantization coefficients without decompression, and then
output jpegs which have significant coefficient change. something like
filtering in frequency domain right

which in this case can take the advantage of up to 30pfs jpeg outputing
webcams, which is cpu eating otherwise.
